Philip McLachlan - Freelance Journalist/Photographer - Victoria, B.C.

Philip recently moved to Victoria to pursue freelance opportunities. Prior to this he worked as senior reporter at the Kelowna Capital News, covering breaking news, court, council and features.

Before this, he worked as editor of the Penticton Western News, and editor of The Free Press in Fernie. His first taste of community journalism took place in Lloydminster, Alta., with the Meridian Booster.

He graduated from Loyalist College of Photojournalism in 2016.

From the age of six, Phil had access to film cameras and grew up behind the lens. This knowledge of the camera combined with his experience with athletics, art and love for writing has transformed his passions into one craft: photojournalism.

He is a decorated Ma Murray Award and Canadian Community Newspaper Award winner in the categories of best feature story, feature photo, breaking news photo, sports photo.

In 2017 he was named a finalist in the Jack Webster Award for Community Reporting.

His is driven by his passion for storytelling.
